This catalogue is published in conjunction with the titled exhibition. This exhibition, according to curator Yuko Hasegawa, was inspired by the word Tropicalia and the exhibition 'When Attitudes Become Form'. The former is a word coined by the artist Helio Oiticica, while the latter is a show curated by Harald Szeemann at the Kunsthalle Bern in 1969. Taking these notions in mind, the exhibition highlights the importance of direct, unrefined knowledge and experiences that are typical Brazilian.

The exhibition is also an event of the Japan-Brazil Year of Exchange. The close ties between the two countries are thus also highlighted. Featured in the exhibition are a number of artists that are of Japanese descend.

Critical essays, images of the artworks and biographies of the featured artists are included.
