Published on the occasion of the exhibition held at Picker Art Gallery, Colgate University in Hamilton, New York, United States from December 2008 to April 2009. The exhibition features 67 Chinese woodblock prints and one software application. Highlights from the Herman Collection are paired with more recent works by some of the same artists, their students, and other contemporary printmakers. This is the first U.S. exhibition to present a comprehensive overview of the beginnings and development of woodcut printing in modern China. Timeline of Chinese political events and woodcut printing, artists' biographies and selected bibliography are provided in this catalogue.
