Ye Xue became interested in Buddhism and Buddhist art in 1989 when he made his first visit to XingJiao Temple in Xian. In his paintings of 'Lohan' character, he seldom includes a background or props. The artist paints instinctively, concentrating only on the facial expressions and body postures of the characters. Since these paintings were created using different media, styles and techniques, Ye Xue finds it difficult to categorize them into one particular genre. The monograph includes, a preface by the artist himself, artist statement and biography.
