The present issue is dedicated to the documentation of the conference Displacements: Transcultural Encounters in Contemporary Chinese Art, organised in conjunction with the exhibition On the Edge: Contemporary Chinese Artists Encounter the West, held at the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Center for Visual Arts, Stanford University in January 2005. A review of the exhibition, contributed by Pan Qing, is included in this issue.
