Zhang Enli’s paintings depict the familiar and overlooked, everyday objects that are connected through the artist’s immediate surroundings in China. They reflect changes in contemporary China that he experienced personally when he moved from the provincial town of Jilin to the megalopolis of Shanghai. In recent works, Zhang Enli has turned his attention away from objects to nightscapes and spaces stripped of glamour and grandeur.

Reproductions of his paintings from 2004 to 2007 are included in this monograph. This book also documents a pictorial environment based on the artist's own residence, realized for Objectif_exhibitions in Antwerp in 2007. Artist biography included.
