As the title suggests, the paintings by Zhu Yiyong are poetic rendering of classical Chinese women in traditional attire, created through the artist’s concern for details, brushwork and the interplay of light, colours, and texture. The use of artificial light makes the contrast between the brightness of the subject in the foreground and the dark background more prominent. It also has the effect of blurring the contours of the images, thus introducing a sense of softness and poetic mood in the paintings. This catalogue documents Zhu Yiyong’s first one-man show in Hong Kong. A biography of the artist is included.
