Starting one year later than initially scheduled, the 4th Fukuoka Asian Art Triennale set out to re-examine the future of contemporary Asian art in a less biennale-heavy September this year. More like a state of mind than an artistic direction, the theme ‘LIVE and LET LIVE: Creators of Tomorrow’ reflects the quest of this thirty year old leader in exhibitions of contemporary Asian art for a more meaningful co-revival rather than merely a competition within the proliferating arena of large scale international exhibitions in Asia. Also acting as a commemoration of the 10th Anniversary of the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum, the 4th Fukuoka Asian Art Triennale implemented a new selection policy, for example the inclusion of artists who have been active on the Asian art scene during the last decade, as well as Asian artists who are now transnationally active.
