This September was perhaps a month for institutional introspection in Guangzhou and Shenzhen. The three recently launched exhibitions, 'Little Movements' at OCT Contemporary Art Terminal in Shenzhen, 'A Museum that is Not' at Guangdong Times Museum, and 'The Forth Guangzhou Triennial: Back to Basics - The Museum Per Se' at Guangdong Museum of Art, coincidently seemed to set out as self-reflexive exhibitions that question what an art institute could be in the contemporary era. The three exhibitions were offset by two video exhibitions at alternative art spaces in Guangzhou, ‘Eclipse’ at Borges Liberia Institute for Art and ‘Man with Hidden Eyes’ at Vitamin Creative Space.
