Join us! AAA Open Saturday, a new way to think about art.

Open Saturday is a new series of daylong programmes centering on art as a means of inquiry. Through invited collaborators from different fields sharing fresh perspectives on a range of topics, Asia Art Archive offers diverse audiences a platform to actively explore art’s capacity to generate ideas.

The inaugural programme, Drawing on Histories, offers participants a chance to experience - through a talk, screenings, exhibition, and drawing tour - the multi-layered ways that drawing generates meaning across time, space, and discipline.

Drawing on Histories is presented in collaboration with Draw Together Hong Kong, ifva of Hong Kong Arts Centre, MCCM Creations, and Walk in Hong Kong.

Programmes

AAA Talk | Drawn from Life
11am-1pm | English

Video (1hr 52min)

Drawing often serves as an easy barometer of an artist’s technical skill. Historically, it has also been considered a universal art form – every child in every culture draws. While drawing is most commonly seen as an act of mark making, it is also a process through which artists evoke, make visible and ‘draw out’ their ideas. In this expanded form, drawing is not limited to being a medium-specific artistic practice, but an approach that moves beyond media in service of an idea, feeling, or impression. Taking this multifaceted perspective, Drawn from Life invites two artists and a scholar to share their singular explorations of self, society, history, musical scores and language through diverse practices of drawing.

AAA Exhibition | Mapping Asia
Until 29 August 2014

Mapping Asia Exhibition
Mapping Asia Exhibition

How we define 'Asia' at Asia Art Archive is the question we are most frequently asked. Acknowledging both the value and limitations of the map as a tool, this project practices a mapping of Asia that does not exclusively depend on the map as artefact, but as something that lives and continues to unfold.

Guided Tour
A tour led by AAA staff will share, among other things, sites of layered pasts and culturally-entangled histories that are currently shaping our notions of Asia.

2-2:30pm

Screening | Drawn to the City
Screening | Drawn to the City

The changing face of the city has been a recurring theme in several recently produced short films. Filmmakers and animators have captured the sheer beauty of the city as well as its memories, struggles, and core values before its stories fade into history. The four short films and animations were selected from the pool of previous ifva award-winning and finalist titles.
