AAA is participating in Booked: Tai Kwun Contemporary’s Hong Kong Art Book Fair—a three-day event showcasing printed matter by local, regional, and international artists, speakers, and art book publishers. AAA’s display presents material from our Collection, with a focus on pedagogy as practice. Featuring exhibition catalogues, journals, zines, artists’ books, and symposium notes, this presentation initiates a dialogue between institutional and non-institutional approaches to artist-driven pedagogical models.
The first group of materials in this display looks at how art schools have allowed new methods of teaching and learning, as well as the continuing importance of institutional critique in this region. The second group explores alternative education via works about artist-led and community-based projects, highlighting the production, documentation, and distribution of knowledge outside of formal institutions. This selection is part of AAA’s ongoing research into the role of artists in developing educational models at institutions and beyond.
Also on display are AAA publications and other editorial collaborations for sale, including China’s New Art, Post-1989 (2001), Wu Shanzhuan Red Humour International (in collaboration with Inga Svala Thórsdóttir) (2005), From Reality to Fantasy: The Art of Luis Chan (2006), Artist-to-Artist: Independent Art Festivals in Chiang Mai 1992–98 (2018), and FESTAC ’77 (2019).
