Artist Jitish Kallat will attempt to provide a glimpse into his practice by thinking through a small selection of recent and older works. Rather than attempt to comprehensively cover his wide-ranging body of work or follow a chronological path, he hopes to touch upon the varied recurring themes that he has dealt with over the years. Jitish Kallat is the Artistic Director of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale 2014 and will also speak briefly about the Biennale and his curatorial process.

Jitish Kallat was born in 1974 in Mumbai where he continues to live and work. Kallat’s works have often been described as distilled, poetic investigations of the cycle of life, interlacing autobiographical, art historical, political, and celestial references. His work has been exhibited widely at museums and institutions including National Gallery of Modern Art (Mumbai), Tate Modern and Tate Britain (London), Martin Gropius Bau (Berlin), Gallery of Modern Art (Brisbane), Kunst Museum (Bern), Serpentine Gallery (London), Mori Art Museum (Tokyo), Palais de Beaux-Arts (Brussels), Art Gallery of Ontario (Toronto), Jean Tinguley Museum (Basel), Centre Pompidou (Paris), and the Gemeente Museum (The Hague) amongst many others. His recent solo shows include venues such as the Bhau Daji Lad Museum in Mumbai, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Ian Potter Museum in Melbourne. He has an ongoing solo exhibition titled ‘Epilogue’ at the San Jose Museum of Art until April 2014.
