Asia Art Archive, 10 Chancery Lane Gallery and Asia Society co-present a talk by Chinese artist Huang Rui, moderated by art historian Philip Tinari.

Celebrating Thirty Years of Chinese Contemporary Art

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the ‘The Stars Exhibition’, China’s first public art exhibition held in Beijing in 1979, Huang Rui gives an overview of the last thirty years of Chinese art. He discusses his involvement as a leader during the time of the Stars Group, the development of Factory 798 Art District in Beijing and its future direction.

Known for his installations and performance art, Huang Rui is one of the founding members of the Stars Group and an advocate of the Dashanzi Factory 798 Art District. Since co-organizing ‘The Stars Exhibition’, Huang Rui has sought to express art’s function as a reflection of society and its strength in addressing contemporary concerns.
