Leeza Ahmady: The Taste of Others - Contemporary Art in Central Asia (Part 2)

Leeza Ahmady will talk about  her on-going curatorial project entitled: 'The Taste of Others: Contemporary Art in Central Asia', intended to promote the largely unknown artists of Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan.

Ahmady has presented numerous related exhibitions, screenings, and talks at various international art venues since 2003. With the support of the Martell Research Grant, she returned to Central Asia in August and September 2005 to conduct further interviews with artists and curators, and collect up-to-date materials on the developing art scene. The dynamism and range of works by Central Asian artists appearing in global art forums contributes a fresh perspective on art and its practice and also redefines the Asian continent.

Afghanistan-born NY-based curator and educator Leeza Ahmady is the Director of Asian Contemporary Art Week, (ACAW) at the Asia Society. She is a founding member of two non-profit organizations: NURTURArt Non Profit, and School of Hope. She is also an advisory member of the Center for Contemporary Art in Afghanistan (CCAA).
