Facilitated by Asia Art Archive and soundpocket, this workshop explores listening as a collaborative practice and its influence on our perceptions of everyday life.

This workshop invites participants to engage with sounds of the mundane, using fragments as entry points to deepen our understanding of listening. The sounds that permeate our neighbourhoods and natural environments reveal insights into sociopolitical and personal narratives, as well as into the concept of time itself. Through a collaborative deconstruction of these sound fragments, the workshop explores an open-ended approach to the act of listening.

The workshop is divided into two parts: a listening exercise and a close reading session. In the first part, participants share audio clips about “walking as a method of field recording” or “time and everyday life.” This is followed by a close reading session that explores essays or excerpts related to listening, collaboration, and the nature of time.

This workshop is organised in conjunction with the exhibition Countering Time, which invites four international artists and writers—Lee Weng Choy, Simon Leung, Gala Porras-Kim, and Merve Ünsal—to speculate on the immeasurability of time in archives.

Free and open to the public with registration.

This workshop is limited to fifteen participants on a first-come, first-served basis.

Preparation guidance about the listening exercise and close readings will be provided after registration.
