Not As Trivial As You Think: Hong Kong Art Quiz — Artist Book

Asia Art Archive presented Not As Trivial As You Think: Hong Kong Art Quizin March 2014 by then artists-in-residence C&G. Four competing teams comprised of artists, art professionals, and students answered more than a 100 questions as part of a public performance that marked the culmination of C&G’s research on the past 50 years of contemporary art and politics in Hong Kong. Conceived as a parody of the education system in Hong Kong, C&G used the traditional school quiz format to test contestants and the audience on a variety of quirky, seldom acknowledged, but important local stories. As the teams fought it out for the grand prize, it was an opportunity to create a different set of ‘award-winning’ artists.

Their complementary artist book Not As Trivial As You Think: Hong Kong Art Quiz covers the questions and answers of the quiz, and is expanded by additional interviews with various contestants in the form of an illustrated study guide.

Special guest Oscar Ho recounts his experience as one of the contestants and discusses some of the more difficult Art Quiz questions in conversation with C&G for the book launch.

The talk is also part of C&G Artpartment’s ‘Under The Bed’ programme series.

Not As Trivial As You Think: Hong Kong Art Quiz was supported by Living Limited and Yana & Stephen Peel.

C&G's residency at AAA was funded by Burger Collection, Hong Kong.
