Asia Art Archive welcomes Zhuang Wubin as our Researcher-in-Residence.

Zhuang Wubin is an independent writer, curator, photographer, and Special Visiting Lecturer at Faculty of Fine Arts, Chiang Mai University, Thailand. He employs photography to understand cultures and histories of Chinese communities in South East Asia. Zhuang surveys the photographic practices of late colonial to contemporary South East Asia in his current book in progress. 

Zhuang Wubin is the 2010 recipient of the research grant from Prince Claus Fund, Amsterdam, and an editorial board member of Trans-Asia Photography Review, a journal published by Hampshire College and the University of Michigan Scholarly Publication Office. In 2013, Zhuang was invited to Galeri Soemardja of Institute Technology of Bandung, Indonesia, for a curatorial residency; and to the MA in Visual Culture Studies programme at Chinese University of Hong Kong as its academic visitor. Selected curatorial work include Documenting as Method: Photography in Southeast Asia, Chiang Mai Photo Festival, Thailand (2015); and Family Snaps: Photography in Southeast Asia, Chiang Mai City Arts and Cultural Centre, Thailand (2014). His third photographic monograph Chinese Muslims in Indonesia (2011) features essays by historian Charles Coppel, curator Enin Supriyanto, and activist Yenny Wahid.
