Towards Modernism: Art of India from 1950 to 1990 (Part 1)
Towards Modernism: Art of India from 1950 to 1990 (Part 2)

Drawing on two AAA digitisation projects undertaken in India, the talk explores concepts central to modernist artistic practice in India between 1950s and 1990. It sheds light on the process of becoming a 'modern Indian artist’, and multiple experiments in artistic pedagogy undertaken during this period, including the establishment of visual art archives, a fine arts fair, and workshops with craftsmen and folk artists. In addition, the talk points to the artistic collective as an important form of practice, leading to prolific workshops and camps, seminal group exhibitions, and artist-run journals/magazines.

Teachers from all disciplines, including Visual Arts, Liberal Studies, History, and Cultural Educators are welcome. No prior knowledge of art is required. To gather a diversified peer-support group, the programme seeks teachers who are passionate about art and interested in engaging in participatory discussions.

Group discussions will be facilitated by the following teachers during the talk:
Hon Hin Shan (Visual Arts Teacher, Yan Chai Hospital No.2 Secondary School)
Lam Mau (Visual Arts Teacher, Munsang College)
Wendy Tai (Li Po Chun United World College)

Registration is now closed. Walk-in registrations will be accepted.

Limited seats will be reserved for students. Group discussions led by university volunteers will be conducted in Cantonese or English depending on students’ needs. Please indicate the number of students you would like to bring in the registration form. A certificate will be given to those with full attendance upon request.
