In 2011, in an attempt to broadly map art-pedagogy in India post-Independence, AAA embarked on a project to digitise the personal archives of four eminent art practitioners from the Fine Arts Faculty at Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. Jyoti Bhatt, Ratan Parimoo, Gulammohammed Sheikh, and K. G. Subramanyan each have their own visions for art education in the country and have made significant efforts towards realising them. Their ideas, teachings, and writings have been significant in shaping the discourse around the development of modern and contemporary art practice in India.

This two-year project is an in-depth excavation of documents that shed light on their careers, on art pedagogy in Baroda, and on their influence in the field in India. It is being carried out on site in Baroda by a team of project researchers overseen by AAA’s Researcher for India.
