AAA welcomes internationally renowned curator, Hou Hanru, to the Asia Art Archive to talk about his curatorial projects and vision, and introduce 'Beyond: The 2nd Guangzhou Triennale' opening in November this year.
About the speaker
Hou Hanru is a graduate of the Central Institute of Fine Arts, Beijing. He lives and works in Paris as an independent critic and curator and is an advisor at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsen, Amsterdam. He has curated and co-curated numerous exhibitions including 'Zones of Urgency', 50th Venice Biennale (Venice, Italy, 2003), 'Pause', Gwangju Biennale 2002 (Gwangju, Korea), 'Asian Vibe' (EACC, Castellon Spain, 2002), 'My Home is Yours, Your Home is Mine' (Samsung Museum, Soeul, Korea, 2000-2001), 'Shanghai Spirit', Shanghai Biennale (Shanghai, China, 2000), 'Beyond the Future', Third Asia Pacific Triennale (Queesnland Art Gallery, Brisbane, Australia, 1999), 'Cities on the Move' (Wiener Secession, Vienna, Austria 1997), 'Hong Kong Etc.', Johannesburg Biennale (Johannesburg, South Africa, 1997), 'China/Avant-Garde' (China's National Art Gallery, Beijing, China, 1989). He is a frequent contributor to exhibition catalogues, books and magazines. In 2002, Timezone 8 published On the Mid-Ground: Hou Hanru, a selection of texts written by Hou Hanru.
