This catalogue is published in conjunction with the site-specific exhibition of RongRong and inri at Factory 798, Beijing, which showcases twelve series of photographs created between 1993 and 2003. It includes works the artists produced independently and together, largely representing their intimate interactions with urban and natural environments. According to curator Wu Hung, this can be considered a retrospective of the two artists as well as an experimental exhibition that poses questions about the language, site, audience, and function of a contemporary art exhibition.

The exhibition is divided into four thematic sections: Ruins, Transformation, Rebirth, and Self-Representation. Each series of work is introduced by text by Wu Hung and/or statements by the artists. Documentation of the interactive performance by a group of experimental dancers on the last day of the exhibition can be found in the Coda section of the catalogue. Artist and curator biographies are provided.
