This work is from the Re-take of Amrita series.
Excerpt from Vivan Sundaram, Vivan Sundaram: Re-take of Amrita, Tulika Books, New Delhi, 2001:
'This montage, which I would title 'Double-date,' is based on photographs taken in 1930 by Umrao Singh in the family flat at Rue de Bassano, off Champs-Élysées. Dressing up in satin, fur, and fancy hats for party life in Paris was à la mode for Amrita. In 1986, I met a number of her classmates from the École des Beaux-Arts, many of whom confessed their love for Amrita. Pierre Jannot said in an interview, 'I have been her lover…I have been her friend also, which is not the case with most of her lovers.''
