Tabo

Photograph of Roberto Chabet's Tabo, a 12-channel video installation with each video showing a view of the Pasig River taken from each of the 12 bridges that cross it. The sound is a reading of the first chapter of Jose Rizal's novel, El Filibusterismo, in Spanish.

The first chapter of the novel talks about the steamship, Tabo, sailing on the Pasig River. Rizal used it as a metaphor for the different levels of social classes in the Philippines during the Spanish rule.

Tabo is included in the exhibition with the same title at the Lopez Memorial Museum from 10 November 2011 - 14 April 2012, and is part of 'Roberto Chabet: Fifty Years,' a year-long series of exhibitions organised by King Kong Art Projects Unlimited in various venues in Singapore, Hong Kong, and Manila from 2011 - 2012.
