Fairytale by Ai Weiwei is part of Documenta 12, the contemporary art exhibition held once very five years in Kassel, Germany. The performance piece cost about 3 million euros and brought 1,001 Chinese people to Kassel. They came from 20 of 22 China's provinces, and were chosen by Ai Weiwei who advertised on his website. The Chinese visitors were lodged in a former Volkswagen factory in Kassel.
