"Chui Tze-Hung is a Hong Kong painter who has played a leading role in bringing contemporary Hong Kong art into the twentieth century. He has sought to do so by a creative assimilation of abstract art from the West and by building on the traditions of Chinese ink painting... The artist admits that he 'escapes' into his landscapes, away from the tensions generated by life in twentieth-century Hong Kong. This attitude is not unlike that of a Southern Sung artist's retreat to solitude. But Chui Tze-Hung's experience of East and West has brought a depth and dimension to this tradition that is wholly new, and his own contribution to contemporary art both at home and internationally." Cesar Guillen-Nuňez, Modernity and Tradition in Chui Tze-Hung's Landscapes, from the Monograph.
The monograph presents paintings and drawings of the artists in the last 10 years. A few early works and the artist's "monologue", essay by Cesar Guillen-Nuňez his work and a biography are included too.
