In this publication, the author Ni Tsaichin re-examines ink painting critically in regards to contemporary issues, such as social, economical and political changes, religion, aesthetics and globalization. He also points out that ink painting has been marginalized by the imposing of western aesthetic models on the art form. He argues that the success and failure in revolutionizing ink painting lie in the abilities of contemporary ink painters and not in this already mature and sophisticated art form.
