The catalogue was published in conjunction with the 1994-1995 exhibition in Bradford. The exhibition showed the works of twenty-five Pakistani women artists and the book includes photographic reproductions of the featured artworks as well as the artists' biographies. The book also includes essays from the curators. From Salima Hashmi's introduction, 'An Intelligent Rebellion: Women Artists of Pakistan brings together a kaleidoscopic and occasionally fragmented account. Inevitably, this exhibition cannot escape the dangers inherent in a survey show ... The exhibition quite consciously owns up to the contradictions and astonishing diversity of work of the artists, both from within Pakistan and elsewhere. This is in keeping with the extraordinary role women have played in the development of contemporary art in Pakistan. They have pioneered art education, headed all of the major art institutions and are among the most important practising professionals.'
