Catalogue produced in conjunction with the exhibition held at the Tsukashin Hall, Seibu Museum of Art, Tokyo in 1988. In the world of art, we are heavily biased towards sight as a subject of expression, neglecting our other major senses, such as touching. The physicality of contemporary art, however, is once again allowing us to recognize and explore 'touch'. For this exhibition, contemporary Japanese artists were asked to make work in response to the question, "What is the art which is not only for vision, but for 'touching by hand'?" Essay by Yujiro Nakamura. A short statement by each artist. Biographies in Japanese only.
