Part of a DVD series produced by China Institute featuring intimate discussions with artists, curators, critics and art historians about contemporary Chinese art from the perspectives of society and politics, the relationship between contemporary Chinese and Western culture, and the bridge between traditional and contemporary Chinese art.

Qiu Zhijie is a leading contemporary artist, educator and critic. He is the Artistic Director of Beijing 25000 Cultural Transmission Center, Associate Professor of Mixed Media Art and Co-Director of the Visual Culture Center in China Academy of Art in Hangzhou. His works suggest the struggle between the forces of destiny and self-assertion, as well as social fragmentation and transience.

This is a video recording of Qiu Zhijie in conversation with Alexandra Munroe, Senior Curator of Asian Art at the Guggenheim Museum, New York, on 12 May 2009. In it he discusses his many artistic endeavors, such as a recent solo show at Chambers Fine Art, New York, titled 'Mochou', and an ongoing project concerning the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge. DVD includes artist bio.
