'Artasia started publication from Pakistan in 1965 as an independent journal in the private sector, aimed at promoting the objectives of the International Association of Arts Critics, popularly known by its French acronym, AICA. The journal sought to introduce "Asian art critics, artists and art movements to a wider circle of art enthusiasts within Asia and outside it", and it was produced with editorial contributions from art critics generally, and members of the Asian National Sections of AICA in particular.

Only three issues of Artasia could be produced. It is now proposed to revive it in a new series as a half-yearly journal, to be published by the Contemporary Arts Resource Centre (Carce), which has been set up recently in Karachi as a non-profit Trust, whose main aim is to develop a database on contemporary art and architecture, and to promote the study and critical appreciation of the visual arts.

The first volume of the journal in the new series is planned for publication in Autumn 2003. Meanwhile, by way of a re-introduction, the first issues of Artasia, (Volume 1, Number One), published in Winter 1965, has been reprinted by courtesy of some of the arts-friendly institutions in the corporate sector whose advertisements appeared in that issue 38 years ago, and who have again generously agreed to place an ad in this reprint edition in 2003.'
