An encyclopedic book published on the occasion of the exhibition 'Becoming Istanbul' at Deutsches Architekturmuseum from 6 September to 9 November 2008.
'The show revolves around a database that sheds light from all sorts of different perspectives on the city on the Bosporus and how it has developed into the current metropolis that interfaces between the West and the Orient.
The book discusses the change of the city and deals with 152 different subjects. The text contributions by more than 80 authors — architects, urban planners and city explorers, architecture theorists and historians, sociologists, journalists, cultural scientists, art historians, literature and social scientists — are arranged alphabetically. They reflect the city of Istanbul in its complexity — and sketch that way an image of the today's metropolis.'
Includes biographies of authors.
