This is the exhibition catalogue of two internationally renowned Chinese calligraphers, C.C. Wang and Wucius Wong. With their breadth of knowledge and experience in traditional Chinese art, these masters have in their own ways pushed the boundaries of tradition and found their own individual voices. The brushstrokes in C.C. Wang’s works are closely connected to gesture, colour and rhythm, which are in themselves abstract calligraphic images. Wucious Wong, on the other hand, introduces the principles of graphic design into his works; the characters are now painted against vigorously painted and geometrically designed backgrounds. As remarked in the introduction, the works presented here ‘eloquently demonstrate the energy, vitality and morality of two masters who relentlessly search for modernism with the strong reassurance of the continued vitality of Chinese culture.’ Biographies of the artists are included.
