Chen Shun-Chu: Portrait of Family

This publication results from a research and exhibition project initiated by Taipei Fine Arts Museum on Taiwanese artist Chen Shun-Chu (1963-2014). Basing his works on photographic imagery related to his own family, Chen often combines these images into installations that give a sense of gloominess. These works, in addition to discussing family and family members, touch on other notions such as land, memory, and space.

In order to understand Chen's development, the publication is divided into two parts, the first of which is a biography based on interviews with the artist that look into how his relations with his family become inspirations of his works. The second part consists of essays by art critics that focus on the different media Chen has deployed and hence what aesthetic meanings these works elicit.

A section is devoted to the artist's handwritings and notes.
