Several Beijing galleries were ordered by Chinese government officials to remove politically themed paintings from their walls.  The order surprised collectors and gallery owners as artists in China have been increasingly free to deal with social and political topics despite the crackdown on dissent in the news media and on the Internet over the last few years.
