The book put forth detailed analysis on 25 Chinese contemporary artists, webbing the overview of an era in the Chinese history. Most of the artists were born within the period of 1950s to 1960s when the Cultural Revolution took place, thus their childhood are more or less shadowed under this significant event. In terms of art history, a monochromatic visual experience was formed under the repression of intuition and emotion in the 60s and the 70s, yet released in the 80s. Artists, as the reporter of time, are capable of marking the trace of a whole era. As they refine the language of art towards innovation and directness, audience and researchers can identify themselves and tell their own stories.
