Enin Supriyanto wrote, 'All the Kelompok Jendela members (Rudi Mantofani, Yunizar, Handiwirman Saputra, Yusra Martunus, and Jumaldi Alfi) were born and brought up in west Sumatra, the region of the Minangkabau people - a community intensely maintaining its inherited traditions as principles of life that do not "crack under the scorching sun nor decay in the rain". And within these traditions there develops a particular mode of communication, or, to be more precise, a sophisticated use of symbols and metaphors in daily exchange as well as in the habit and ability to summarize observations and experiences in just an allusive sentence.'
