This exhibition was co-curated by Ying-ying Lai from Taipei Fine Arts Museum and Greg Bellerby from Charles H. Scott Gallery, bringing together eight artists with an attempt to discuss several aspects of contemporary Taiwanese art from the perspective of art and society. Thematically it can be divided into three parts: ‘People and the Land’ (Lulu Hou, Yao Jui-Chung), ‘History and Culture’ (Yu Peng, Wu Tien-chang, Chien Fu-yu), ‘Family and the Individual’ (Chen Shun-chu, Liu Shih-fen, Yuan Goang-ming).
This catalogue includes, apart from two essays and brief biographies of each artist, basic a chronology of twentieth century Taiwanese art and selected biographies organised and compiled by Taipei Fine Arts Museum, which would be of help for people who study modern and contemporary Taiwanese art. All texts are provided in both Chinese and English.
