'This project is the first showing of Taiwanese art in Japan since "Message from Taipei", organized by The Hara Museum of Contemporary Art in 1989. It presents the works of seven artists in three successive exhibitions. The artists in the first section offer serious social and political messages based on their own personal interpretation or critical reaction to the complex historical experience of Taiwan. The artists in the second section deal with spiritual issues, suggesting new ways of carrying on Taiwan's traditional culture. The work done by artists in the third group reflects current conditions in Taiwan brought about by rapid economic growth and the consumer society it has created.' - Fumio Nanjo. This catalogue includes artist biographies.
