In 'Dramas of the Human Encounter,' Peter Selz offers an overview of the abstract expressionist paintings of Turkish artist/Cultural Guerilla Bedri Baykam. In addition, Selz addresses the problem of Western Hegemony that continues to exclude non-Western artists like Baykam from the opportunities and exposure given to their European and Western counterparts. "I myself first met Bedri Baykma when, as a participant in a symposium at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art for the exhibition "The Human Condition" (July 1, 1984) I received his manifesto which posed the question: "Is the Western world once again in the process of building modern art history as solely the history of occidental artists?" "Here Baykam pointed at the cultural domination of the western establishment, which he stated in alarm, appears to certify that "we are going to present New Expressionism as a purely western phenomena in the future reference books that our descendants will read." - Peter Selz, extract taken from 'Dramas of Human Encounter,' p.13.
