This catalogue is published to accompany the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennial 2003. The endeavor of the Triennial was to create an opportunity for regional independence, in the form of an art festival with artists' involvement.

The works of art for Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennial explore a new possibility of art. The process of creating works of art on other people's properties are involved where various conflicts are caused and emerged into a new energy.

In addition to local festivities, there were many other events such as the Echigo-Tsumari Art Symposium, Global Environmental Seminar, sport games, music/film/dance performance, theatre and concert.
