Thailand's entry in the 52nd Venice Bienniale that runs from June 10 to November 21, 2007 will actually be just two huge installations: Being Sand by Amrit Chusuwan and City of Ghosts by Nipan Oranniwesna. Entitled, "Globalisation...Please Slow Down", the exhibit was conceived by the Apisak Sonjod, director of Tadu Contemporary Art Gallery, and selected by the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture (OCAC) to represent Thailand in its only third appearance in the Venice Biennale. Amrit's work requires two tons of sand that visitors must traverse barefoot with concurrent video projections of people walking, while Nipan will chisel 10 relief maps out of talcum powder. The budget for the Venice Biennale is Bt4 million.
