Published in conjunction with the inaugural edition of the Focus Photography Festival held from 13–27 March 2013 in Mumbai, India. Themed around 'The City' the works exhibited in galleries, shops, cafes, and even the streets of Mumbai explore the relationship between urbanity and photography. To anchor the festival, two benchmark exhibitions were organised: 'A Fantastic Legacy: Early Bombay Photography', curated by art historian Susan Hapgood, and 'A Photograph is Not An Opinion - Contemporary Photography by Women', curated by Sunil Gupta with Veeranganakumari Solanki. Essays by Susan Hapgood, Sunil Gupta and arts writer Kamayani Sharma are featured in this catalogue. A list of works in the two exhibitions are included at the back. Brief introductions to the other festival programmes and details about their venues are also provided in the latter part of the catalogue.
