The catalogue was published in conjunction with the exhibition of 2015, which showcases 180 works between 1895-1947 from the museum collection and explores the Japanese colonial era of Taiwan. As Ping LIN writes in the foreword, it was 'a period of dramatically shifting social values and cultural infusion' in which the works from that timeframe 'constantly shaped what Taiwan was to become.' The book includes five essays, plates of the exhibited works divided into six sections (Enlightenment, Fringe, Poise, Vogue, Vision, and Homeland), short artist profiles, a chronology of the milestones in Taiwanese Art, and an overviewing selection of the artworks.
