This exhibition marks the first time the Ateneo Art Gallery is presenting works from its permanent collection in Australia, at the La Trobe University Museum of Art as part of the 2006-2009 Ateneo-La Trobe Arts Linkage. This catalogue features two essays, by Yael A. Buencamino and Clarissa Chikiamco respectively, punctuated by images of selected artworks.

"Redolent with images of pathos to evoke a people's struggle for freedom, while at the same time depicting the fiesta bedlam of a nation confronting its problems by rollicking in jocularity or brooding with wearied irony, the sheer power of the imagery and the range of ideas and emotions in this show evince the very raw nature of art from this critical period in Philippine history. The fact that these challenges persist today is reinforced by the inclusion of works of more recent vintage." - Foreword by Ramon E.S. Lerma, Director & Chief Curator of Ateneo Art Gallery
