This catalogue accompanies the exhibition Hiroshi Sugimoto: History of History presented at the Japan Society Gallery in 2006. A contemporary photographer deeply attuned to the interconnections between the ancient and modern worlds, Hiroshi Sugimoto sees history as a dynamic process shaped in part by artists and their art. In the exhibition, Sugimoto doubles as the curator. He gathers objects from prehistory to the present day and shares his vision of time through artifacts and art. 'History of History presents the artist's photographs, selected largely from his renowned series of seascapes, with East Asian art and ancient objects from his own private collection. The result is something akin to a guided tour of time and history, as seen from the artist's individual perspective.' - Frank L. Ellsworth, President of Japan Society.
With text by the artist himself on the various artifacts. Please note that the catalogue does not provide images of works, it serves rather as a guide to the exhibits.
