Curated by Wu Meichun and Qiu Zhijie, and with the participation of over sixty artists, this exhibition attracted much attention in the contemporary art scene in China. The reason for this, according to Wu Hong, was the combination of three factors: its size, its collaboration with a business corporation and its sociological focus on the theme ‘Jia’ (meaning ‘home’ or ‘family). ‘By making this title a question,’ Wu continues, ‘the curators hoped to encourage artists to speculate on the complexity of ‘Jia’ in real life and to explore this complexity in art.’ (‘Exhibiting Experimental Art’, p.197).
