Inga Svala Thorsdottir has been producing collaborative works with Chinese conceptual artist Wu Shanzhuan from 1993 to 2003. Borg 21°W & 64°N is a solo exhibition by Thorsdottir at Villa Merkel, the Galerien der Stadt Esslingen am Neckar from December 2005 to February 2006. The Borg project involves the planning and designing of a new utopic city in Iceland that could accommodate the entire Icelandic population. Annelie Pohlen writes, 'Both legends and utopias offer an abundance of inspirations that are useful as they are poetic for designing a city in which free man's basic needs are met in the here and now, under ideal conditions, using all resources effectively. As Borg no longer has to be invented, but exists both geographically and poetically, it offers ideal conditions for a utopia in the age of post-ideological dreams and fictions.'
