This catalogue is produced for the exhibition 'Kayama Matazo Retrospective 1927-2004' held at the National Art Center, Tokyo, from Jan-Mar 2009, and Takamatsu City Museum of Art, from Apr-May 2009. Commemorating the 5th anniversary of the artist's passing, this exhibition looks back on Kayama's illustrious career thorough the display of his oeuvre, which ranges from early animal painting, folding screen painting, to later ink painting. Also introduced are his various creative activities such as ceramic, kimono wear and jewelry designs.
