The publication is produced on the occasion of solo exhibition of Japanese artist Kazuo Shiraga of the same title held in Mnuchin Gallery, New York from February to April 2015.
'Action painting' has been a stylistic feature of Shiraga's art. He has experienced making oil paintings using his hands and fingers, and found the viscosity of tube-ready oil paint freer than the inconvenient and thin ink-based pigments. The artist continues to explore the relationship between body and material over the course of his career, and is best known for the large-scale foot paintings.
Including plates of Shiraga's works.
