This monograph features Riyas Komu's 'Iraq Project', including his football sculptures 'Left Legs' and football paintings 'Groung I, II, III' and 'Occupation Stories I & II'. Through his works, Indian sculptor Riyas Komu has always questioned the notion of the West and its renewed role in acquiring and accumulating territory and subjects on a truly astonishing scale. In this project, Komu takes the battle of his interest to one of the most turbulent settings of our times: Iraq. He kick-starts a new series of contrarian arguments using perhaps the most passionate athletic activity on earth: soccer and its potential in making the social, geographical and national field.
