The publication of this book was inspired by and a result of an exhibition entitled 'Legends of Chang-an West Road', held at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Taipei, which attempted to encourage closer interaction between contemporary artists and residents in the neighbourhood. Three artists were invited to participate whose works documented the Datung District through photography, video installation, and industrial materials gathered from the community. Images of the exhibits are included here, as well as essays studying the relationship between contemporary art and local community written by art critics and curators.
